Το 1917, πριν από την Οκτωβριανή Επανάσταση των μπολσεβίκων, επισκέφθηκε τον όσιο Νεκτάριο της Όπτινα ένα από τα στενά πνευματικά του τέκνα, ο πατήρ Βασίλειος Σούστιν. Στα πλαίσια μιας συζήτησής τους, όπως περιγράφει ο πατήρ Βασίλειος, ξαφνικά ο όσιος είπε τα εξής: «“Μία φοβερή ώρα έρχεται τώρα. Στον κόσμο πέρασε ο αριθμός έξι και πλησιάζει ο αριθμός επτά. Ο απόστολος Πέτρος ρώτησε τότε τον Χριστό: ‘Ω, Κύριε, πότε θα παύσουν αυτά τα βάσανα;’. Και ο Κύριος Ιησούς Χριστός απάντησε: ‘Τους δίνω μέχρι το 1922, αλλά αν ο λαός δεν μετανοήση, αν δεν συνέλθη, τότε θα χαθούν όλοι με τον τρόπο αυτόν’. Τότε, ξαφνικά, βρέθηκε να στέκεται μπροστά στον θρόνο του Θεού ο τσάρος μας φορώντας το στεφάνι του μεγαλομάρτυρος. Ναι, αυτός ο τσάρος θα γίνη μεγαλομάρτυς”».
