Sophie Law was born in London in 1981. She read Greats at Merton College, Oxford University, before building upon four years of Russian with a Masters in Russian Studies from the School of Slavonic & East European Studies, UCL. She has worked in the auction industry since graduating, joining the Russian Department at Bonhams in London as a Cataloguer in 2005. Head of Department from 2012-2014, Sophie has overseen many world auction records, selling Vasilii Polenov's 'He That is Without Sin' for £4,000,000, Alexander Volkov's 'Child Musicians' for £2,100,000 and Nicholas Roerich's 'Madonna Laboris' for £7,900,000, surpassing the previous record for the artist by over £5,000,000 and achieving the record price at the time for the most expensive painting ever sold in a Russian auction. Sophie was appointed to the UK Board in 2014 and now acts as a consultant specialist for the Department. She lives with her husband and daughter in Oxford.

Sophie has published in collaboration with Fabergé her debut novel in October 2018, entitled Olga’s Egg, which offers every narrative jewel possible to enthrall the reader.  We travel from London to St. Petersburg and back again in search of the lost Faberge egg made for Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, the eldest daughter of  Tsar Nicholas II.

Sophie has contributed to “The Romanov Royal Martyrs Project” by working on the chapter on Holy Martyr Grand Duchess Elisabeth Feodorovna's monastic life and a selection of letters by her to the Tsar-Martyr Nicholas II. Most of these letters will be published for the first time in our book.
